Book: The General in his Labyrinth

Pages: 60

Summary: The general has finally begun his journey to leave the lands he had saved from Spanish colonial oppression. Before he leaves however, his friend and former lover sets up a farewell party for her general. The general who is not fond of meetings or parties obviously treats her attempts to reconnect the general with his people as naive and pointless; yet when the time arrives he is dressed and prepared, like a proper gentleman with an extensive military background, and conducts himself with a polite demeanor towards everyone, even his rivals, both military and political. Before the party ends, the general leaves for his quarters where he gathers what is left of his belongings and takes the first step on a journey he most likely will not survive.
